Barnard Family

He married Margaret Hill about 1550 at Downside.

Their children, all born at Downside, were:

• William, born about 1551 and died in 1597 at Shepton Mallet;
• John, born about 1553, married about 1578 at Sherborne, Dorset, and was buried on 14 May 1623 at the Parish Church, Shepton Mallet; and
• Edward, born about 1555.

Edward BARNARD was born about 1555 at Downside, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England, the son of John Barnard and Margaret Hill.

He married Christian Whitcombe on 21 September 1579 at Sherborne, Dorset, England.

Their children, all born at Downside, were:

• Joane, born about 1581, married Edward Stephens about 1600 at Downside, and died after 12 December 1622;
• Edward, born in 1585;
• Christian, born about 1587, married Edward Aprice about 1605 at Downside, and died after 12 December 1622;
• Bathshua, born about 1588, married John Locke about 1608 at Downside, and died after 12 December 1622; and
• Ann, born about 1590 at Downside, married Joseph Bythesea about 1615 at Downside, and died after 12 December 1622.

The 12 December 1622 date noted frequently appears to have been the date that Edward's will was written.

Edward was buried on 19 June 1623 at the Parish Church, Shepton Mallet.

Edward BARNARD was born in 1585 at Downside, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England, the son of Edward Barnard and Christian Whitcombe.

He married Jane Smythes on 28 December 1606 at Wrington, Somerset.

Their child was:

• Joan, born in 1607 at Downside.

Edward died on 9 September 1641 at Shepton Mallet and was buried there on 16 September 1641 at the Parish Church.

Joan BARNARD (or Johanna) was born in 1607 at Downside, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, England, the daughter of Edward Barnard and Jane Smythes.

She married William Strode in 1621 at Downside.

She died on 23 August 1658 at Barrington, Somerset and was buried at St. Peters and St. Pauls Church, Shepton Mallet.
